MailSteward version 9.x is a paid upgrade from versions 8.x. There is a $20 upgrade fee for users of earlier versions 8.0 and above, prior to 9.0. For those who purchased MailSteward on or after September 1, 2009, the upgrade is free. If you have a license for any of the MailSteward versions, purchased on or after September 1, 2009, you can upgrade in the usual way by clicking on Check for Updates in the MailSteward menu. You will then be provided with a new license key for you to enter once the 9.x version of MailSteward is installed and re-launched.
The $20 upgrade only applies to versions 8.0 and greater of MailSteward. Versions prior to 8.0 will need to purchase a new license.
If you are a registered user of a previous version of MailSteward greater than version 8.0, purchased prior to September 1, 2009, you can upgrade to version 9.x by downloading the latest version and taking the following steps.
1. Purchase the $20 MailSteward upgrade license at the pubblog store.
2. Launch MailSteward and click on the Enter License button. Then enter the order id of your original MailSteward purchase, not your upgrade order id. Or, if you don't have your original order id, you can enter your current license key. Enter your new upgrade license key, and click on the License Now button.
3. Your new license key will be entered into the registered users' database, and MailSteward will be fully activated.

Version 9.0.1 of MailSteward has the following changes:- Now displays the size of the currently selected email in a list of emails.
- As email is archived, tags are now updated even if the email is already in the database.

Version 8.0.3, build 1112 of MailSteward has the following change:
- This build fixes a bug introduced in version 8.0.1 that caused exporting a MailSteward database to fail for email for which raw source has not been archived.
Version 8.0.3, Build 1111 of all versions of MailSteward fixes a bug introduced in version 8.0.3, build 1110, that causes archiviing to fail because of a missing Perl module that is required to adjust the datetime to the local time zone. As a result, the feature of adjusting to the time zone has been removed in this build.
Version 8.0.3 of MailSteward & MailSteward lite has the following changes:
- New feature to refine a search by searching within an existing search results list.

- A bug has been fixed in base64 decoding that caused some attachments to be unviewable.

Version 8.0 of MailSteward, MailSteward Lite, and MailSteward Pro has the following changes:
- The free version is now activated to the full version by entering a license key.
- You can now check for, install, and relaunch new releases from within MailSteward.
- Added Archive History feature to the File menu to keep and display a log of successful archives.
- The printing of email text and HTML views has been fixed so that lines are not cut off and everything is properly formatted.
- Fixed handling of 3 digit years in email dates.
- Fixed some problems with importing MailTags priorities correctly, and searching for priorities.
